Psoriasis fact and psoriasis information
is there really a cure for psoriasis?
It have been proven, time and again, that there is NO absolute cure for psoriasis. There are MANY treatments for psoriasis, each have a varying degree of success for different people, and various side effects exist for most drugs.
there is NO link between liver and kidney problems
There is NO proven link between liver and kidney problems and psoriasis. Therefore "detoxification" and "cleansing" diets are obviously misleading. There is no proven toxin, or group of "toxin" that cause or contribute to psoriasis. Therefore, paying for a psoriasis diet is deliberately misleading. We offer psoriasis diet suggestions here.
how many people have psoriasis?
It is not exactly known, but it is estimated between 1-5% of the world wide population. Including some 1,000,000 in Australia, 5,000,000 in the USA and a similar number in the UK. It is estimated that 125 million people throughout the world suffer from psoriasis.
there is NO information that exists anyplace than can "cure" your psoriasis
Therefore, any book, pamphlet or diet (free or that costs you money) that can possibly contain any information that is medically proven to help or cure psoriasis. please take a moment to look up your dictionary (psoriasis, "an incurable skin inflammation" etc.)
why are there 1000's of web pages offering "psoriasis cures?"
Its called trying to "get rich quickly." Its common practice to try and sell things on the internet for lots of money, that cost no money. So an "e-book" published via the internet, costs no money to make, but makes the publisher a lot of money. Notice how they all guarantee a cure, and guarantee a full refund? Why not just give the information for free? Or if the information was valid and worked, then everybody simply would know. Remember 1-5% of people have psoriasis, so news would travel fast if there was a real cure!
why doesn't my doctor recommend UVB treatment?
There might be many reasons. On the other hand there are many doctors, hospitals and dermatologists that do recommend UV phototherapy light treatment. Your particular doctor may have other vested interests. For example, it is widely known many doctors receive financial incentives (holidays, gifts, wine etc) from drug companies to prescribe their drugs. Basically, there is no money, no kick back, and no finders fee available to doctors who recommend or prescribe UV phototherapy light treatment. "Nothing in it for them" often means phototherapy is often overlooked, even though it has been widely known and proven extremely successful for well over 25 years. Therefore it is safer than any new or modern drug - the side effects of which are not normally noticed for 10-20 years after prolonged use.
I have heard a lot about Vitamin D
Vitamin D has widely been known to help some psoriasis suffers. However, simply using Vitamin D creams, and taking Vitamin D tablets will not work by its self. Your body can only accept so much vitamins, and pass the excess. UVB and Sunlight CAUSE your skin to manufacture NATURAL Vitamin D which is many times more effective than synthetic Vitamin D products. This is another reason UVB treatment is so successful. Synthetic vitamins or retinoid are known to cause birth defects and cancers.
what is it with all the "before and after" pictures?
The World Wide Web is filled with hundreds of web pages claiming magic psoriasis and Acne cures. In reality, any severe psoriasis will look slightly improved even if rubbed with a cheap skin moisturiser for 3-4 weeks. The very nature of psoriasis is piles of dead and flaky skin. So even if most of the before and after shots are actually legitimate, 99% of them can not possibly show signs of actual improvement in the condition. They may well show what appears to be a visual improvement. However, stop using the moisturiser (or any moisturiser) and the condition probably returns worse than before. We have said before, but most wonder cures/treatment on the internet, simply include "coal tar" which is widely available from your local chemist or pharmacist without a prescription.
I have heard about Zinc and Silver oxide ointments
Zinc and Silver oxides have been used to treat a number of topical skin conditions for many years, skin cap is falsely marketed as a zinc spray (it is actually steroid based.) They appear to have bleaching properties that could possibly kill surface infections and fungus. The contents of Skin Cap are also absorbed through the skin into the blood system. Any claim to a psoriasis or Acne treatment has no documented medical evidence or studies. These medicines are not new, meaning if they did work as a psoriasis or Acne treatment, it would simply be very well know.
who is investigating psoriasis and Acne cures?
probably just about every drug company in the world. Consumers spend some $8 billion US each year on psoriasis and Acne "cures" and treatments. Anybody claiming to have a "revolutionary" cure concocted in their own kitchen, must be doing better than the entire drug industry combined.
UVB, PUVA or UVA?
Natural sun light is made up of two different main wavelengths of ultraviolet (UV) light: UVA and UVB. In contrast, sun beds usually contain high levels of mainly UVA rays. Since the common misconception is that UVB light can burn and damage skin, it is a FALSE understanding that UVA tanning beds and salons are safe. In fact, UVA light penetrates much deeper into the skin that than UVB rays, damaging elastic fibres that keep the skin supple. UVA rays also make the skin more vulnerable to the effects of UVB, so using a sun bed means that you'll be more likely to burn when you're exposed to natural sunlight for the next 7-10 days. UVB light can burn skin from over exposure (just like natural sunlight can) but it is the SAFEST part of the UV light spectrum and clinically proven as an effective treatment for many skin conditions. Used in moderation and according to an approved treatment program UVB is a highly effective and SAFE treatment as recommended by the
World Health Organisation.
